KANO MINISTRY OF HEALTH TO STRENGTHEN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS ON THE STATE HEALTH AGENDA

Communication stThe Kano State Ministry of Health today held a high-level meeting at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Nassarawa Hospital, with the aim of strengthening health publicity and communication across the state.

In a press release issued by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) Aminu Ahmed Turaki.

The meeting, chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf brought together Public Relations Officers (PROs), Senior Special Reporters (SSRs), Special Reporters (SRs) under health MDAs, as well as heads of Health MDAs.

The session focused on reviewing existing communication strategies, identifying gaps, and adopting new approaches to enhance health awareness and information dissemination.

In his remarks, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf underscored the critical role of effective communication in advancing the state’s health agenda.

She urged participants to work collaboratively to ensure clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across all health programmes.

Key highlights of the meeting included:

Establishing a central coordination desk for health publicity.

Developing a strategic publicity framework covering all health campaigns.

Strengthening collaboration between PROs, SSRs, SRs, and MDAs for unified messaging.

Expanding the use of both digital platforms and traditional media to reach wider audiences.

Enhancing community engagement strategies with culturally relevant messages.

Introducing periodic capacity-building and review sessions for communication officers.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to reinforce health publicity in Kano State, ensuring that residents are well-informed and empowered to participate actively in health initiatives.

Speaking at the close of the session, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf stated:

“Our goal is to ensure that no community is left behind in accessing vital health information. Effective communication is the bridge between policy and the people, and together we will continue to strengthen that bridge for the benefit of all Kano residents.”
