The Trade Union Congress (TUC) Kano state council has organized Maiden Edition Labour Summit 2024 to discuss issues on employment, industrialization, workers right and socioeconomic development in the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the occasion, the Kano State Council chairman of TUC Comrade Mubarak Buba Yarima, said that the meeting included heads of government and private institutions, labour leaders and experts from various parts of the country who presented papers and speeches on the way forward concerning job services, workers rights, industrialization, entrepreneurship and development of the economy.
Comrade Mubarak Buba Yarima commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for commencing of payments of new minimum wage of N71, 000 and he appreciated his maximum support and cooperation to the union.
Comrade Mubarak Buba Yarima said that the TUC council will continue to contribute to the development of the welfare of workers and the economy of Kano state.
He praised the national leaders, branches and members for their dedication towards development of the union.
In his speech, the special adviser to the governor on labor affairs, Comrade Baffa Sani Gaya, who expressed his satisfaction with the good leadership shown by the TUC leader, Comrade Mubarak Yarima, also assured that the government will continue to cooperate with the union for the development of workers and productivity and provision of conducive working atmosphere fo workers.
The national Secretary of the union Comrade Nuhu Toro said the summit has injected knowledge to participants on unionism, and has impacted ethical leadership on good governance, harmonious relationship with employee, industrialization and economic development.
During the event, Dr. Albert Udoh presented a paper on Trade Unions and its impact on good governance while that of Comrade Auwalu Mudi Yakasai spoked on role of trade unions on protection and promotion of workers right.
The theme of the Summit is Relevance of Trade Unions in the Socioeconomic Transformation of the Nation: Advancing Productivity, job Security, Ethical Leadership and Industrial Relation in Modern Day Unionism.
The event was attended by the chairman NLC Kano State Council Comrade Kabiru Inuwa and his counterpart of Nigeria Union of Journalists Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi and other labour leaders from parts of the country.
