As the world mark the world tuberculosis day this year, people in the state have been enjoin to visit the nearest health facility for medical check up on early TB diagnosis/Screening to receive free treatment at no cost.
The world TB day which is commemorated every 24th of this march is to raise public awareness on tuberculosis and to eradicate it entirely.
The commissioner for health Dr Abubakar labaran Yusuf addressing journalists during a press briefing at the emergency operations center Abdullahi wase specialist hospital said that a recent global TB report showed that 10.6m people developed tuberculosis diseases globally.
He said that Nigeria ranked as the sixth among the TB high burden countries and the first in Africa, while Kano being the most populous state in the country is on of the sixth burden states.
Dr Labaran stated that last year Kano has TB burden of 33,690 cases and were able to treat 28,169 patients as a total of 1,732 children were placed on treatment.
He however said that the TB disease usually affects the lungs which causes coughing and can be transmitted through sneezing, talking which are among one of the major signs of contracting the disease.
He appreciated the effort of international partners, media, traditional leaders and health personnel’s in strengthening health system in the state.
The theme for this year world tuberculosis day is “yes we can end tuberculosis.
