The SERVICOM Directorate, Kano under the stewardship of Director Tahir Garba, has once again demonstrated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery through another round of unscheduled monitoring visits to key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across Kano State.
At the Drugs and Medical Consumable Supply Agency (DMCSA), the Managing Director, Pharm. Gali Sule, FPSN, highlighted reforms undertaken by the agency, particularly the direct supply of medicines to hospitals.
This innovation, he noted, has reduced costs, eliminated delays, and ensured that health facilities receive their medicines within two weeks of placing orders, in line with established guidelines.
The Directorate also visited several health institutions.
While staff commitment was commended at Kabuga Primary Health Care, concerns were raised over staff shortages at Imam Wali General Hospital and the need for strict compliance with duty rosters in certain facilities.
In the education sector, SERVICOM observed that not all teachers were present at some secondary schools during the visits.
The Directorate also encouraged greater discipline, accountability, and call to minimize value for money in the management of certain private health schools.
Monitoring extended to other MDAs where attendance levels varied.
While some agencies reflected commitment to duty, others including the Nasarawa Local Government Secretariat, KAROTA, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and the Pilgrims Welfare Board recorded limited senior staff presence at the time of the visit.
On a positive note, the Directorate commended REMASAB for proactive efforts to address payment delays affecting street sweepers.
The management explained that issues such as unmatched NIN and BVN details, alongside dormant accounts, had contributed to the delays and assured that corrective steps were being taken.
Director Tahir Garba emphasized that these visits are not punitive but corrective in nature, designed to encourage accountability, strengthen work ethics, and ensure continuous improvement in public service.
He reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to engaging stakeholders across sectors to guarantee effective service delivery for the people of Kano State.
