Kano State branch of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria RTEAN has observed that the operations of illegal and private transportation companies and motor parks are threat to security in the state.
Kano State Chairman of the union, Alhaji Jibril Mustafa disclosed this in an interview with our reporter on the challenges of the transportation sector in his office.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, the Union Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Balarabe emphasized the need for government to take necessary steps to safeguard the lives and property of people in the state.
The Chairman who pointed out that the illegal and private motor parks have more operating sites than trade unions operators called on the government to force them to join RTEAN, NURTW and NARTO to restore sanity in the system.
Speaking on the recent enforcement by the police to ensure compliance with vehicle and third party insurance, Alhaji Jibril Mustafa said their Union motor parks are complying with the directive.
The Chairman added that they always screen drivers and their vehicles before joining the union as well as keeping proper records of drivers and passengers through Manifest while travelling as well as taking care of treatments in case of an accident.
He added that transport unions are ready to register anyone to sanitise the business.
The RTEAN chairman who mentioned the contribution of the union in revenue generation and development of the transportation sector, decried the lack of maximum support by governments in the northern states.
He then warned passengers to avoid patronizing illegal motor parks for their safety.
