Kano State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed its resolution to safeguard the future of youth and security of the state through conversation of thuggery activities and drug abuse among younger generation.
In a press statement issued by the Director public Enlightenment Kano Government house Usman Gwadabe.
The Director General Special Services Directorate, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd) disclosed this at the end of the special meeting with para military agencies for collaboration held at his office, Kano Government House, recently.
He said the collaboration is aimed at unifying government effort in order to ensure the security of lives and properties as well as healthier and peaceful environment for the citizens to progress.
According to the Director General the rising of violence in the state was being attributed to several factors such as unemployment, poverty, drug abuse and weak community structures among others.
“We therefore stand united in our commitment to address drug abuse which threaten the health, safety and well-being of our communities.
“The proliferation of counterfeit and fake pharmaceutical products which poses significant threat to the society, does not only endanger the lives of our citizens but also undermine the integrity of our healthcare delivery.
“It is imperative that we take decisive action to combat these challenges and protect our future,” the director general assured.
AVM Umar stressed that present administration of Governor Yusuf, is fully committed to tackle the resurgence of thuggery through empowerment schemes, skill acquisition initiatives in order to create sustainable livelihood for our young generation.
He said the efforts of the NDLEA and NAFDAC in the crusade against drug abuse, fake, counterfeit and substandard pharmaceutical products are indeed appreciated.
The director general added that Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Security & Civil Defence Corp and Kano State Hisbah Board support to convert drug abuse could not be overemphasized.
AVM Umar also appreciated partnership with Consumer Protection Council, the State Task Force on Illicit Drugs, Substance Abuse and Phone Snatching as well as Vigilante Group for supporting the directorate to achieve the set objectives.
He maintained that the present administration of Governor Yusuf is currently renovating the Kiru Reformatory Centre with a view to rehabilitate victims of drugs abuse so as to become productive.
