Kano Women Affairs Celebrate International women’s day 2025

Kano State ministry of women affairs, children and disabled organizes a press briefing to mark the 2025 international women’s day which is was celebrated at the ministry’s conference Hall on the 8th of March 2025.

Delivering her welcome remarks to journalists the commissioner Hajia Amina Abdullahi (HOD) said that the IWD is globally commemorated to celebrate women’s achievements as well to acknowledge the on going struggle for gender equality.

It is a day that recognizes the significant contributions of women that make our society, economy and politics.

This year’s theme is FOR ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS: Rights, Equality, Empowerment, resonates deeply with our commitment and social inclusion in the State.

The commissioner however mention that despite the progress, significant barriers have been recorded as women and girls continue to face inequality which includes discrimination, violence and limited access to education and economic opportunities.

She said that it is a collective responsibility on all to address these challenges and work towards creating a just and equitable society.

Kano state government is not left behind as it is committed to advancing women’s empowerment through various initiatives and programs.

It is believed that empowering women is essential to achieving sustainable development and promoting social cohesion.

Hajia Amina HOD stated that Kano state government has a blueprint that serves as a guiding document of governance, out of which there is a solid pillar titled:’ Youth and Women Empowerment.

This shows how committed and passionate this administration is towards making women’s lives more sustainable and improving their affordability of living.

The commissioner acknowledge the tireless efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in empowering women in the state.

She said his administration has implemented several initiatives aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment, including:

– *Distribution of 7,158 goats* to 2,386 women as part of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project.

– *N50,000 monthly empowerment program* for vulnerable women.

– *Provision of microfinance loans* to support women’s businesses and entrepreneurship.

– *Training programs* for women in various skills such as tailoring, knitting, and cosmetics production.

– *Establishment of women’s economic empowerment centers* to provide training, counseling, and support services.

– *Scholarship programs* for girls and women to support their education and career development.

– *Distribution of food items and other essential commodities* to vulnerable women and their families.

– *Support for women in agriculture*, including provision of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs.

As the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Disabled, we are committed to supporting these initiatives and promoting women’s empowerment in our state.m

The commissioner said her ministry is working tirelessly to:

– *Formulate policies and programs that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.

– *Provide training and capacity-building programs* for women to enhance their skills and economic opportunities.

– *Establish partnerships with local and international organizations* to support women’s empowerment initiatives.

– *Planning to inaugurate the Child Protection Implementation Committee and to establish the People with Diability Commission, which will also support women with disability.

– Establish the Sexual Assault Referral Center (Waraka)

– *Established Gender Based Violence Response Team and Committee.*

• Part of the ministry’s complimentary efforts also is the domestication of the national policy of Women Economic Empowerment .

The policy was recently validated and is awaiting executive approval.

She assured to continue to work closely with Kano State Government to ensure that women in Kano State are empowered to reach their full potential.

And express her sincere gratitude to each and every one for sparing their time to join in the celebration today and then said that the media presence is a testament to their commitment in amplifying the voices and stories of women and girls in Kano State.
