Kano State Inaugurates Organizing Committee for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary Celebration

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has inaugurated the Organizing Committee for the 65th Independence Anniversary Celebration in Kano State, describing the milestone as a moment of pride and reflection for the nation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner welcomed members of the committee and acknowledged the tireless contributions of institutions and individuals who have ensured the success of past anniversary celebrations under the present administration.

 

He noted that their dedication, creativity, and commitment to excellence had been instrumental in keeping the spirit of independence alive.

The Commissioner assured the newly inaugurated committee that his ministry was determined to improve on past experiences by addressing challenges encountered during previous anniversaries.

According to him, lessons learned in the past two years would guide this year’s planning, with stronger synergy among stakeholders and government agencies.

He pledged full support and resources to enable the committee to deliver a memorable and seamless celebration.

Highlighting the responsibilities before the committee, the Commissioner charged members to ensure the organization of a befitting parade for His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on October 1, 2025.

He also outlined other key tasks including a public lecture to mobilize citizens on voter registration, interfaith prayers for peace and prosperity, outreach visits to less privileged communities, and the peaceful mobilization of citizens to mark the day.

Comrade Waiya further emphasized that the celebration should go beyond rituals, serving as an avenue to foster patriotism, unity, and collective responsibility among citizens.

He expressed confidence that with the caliber of personalities in the committee, the 65th Independence Anniversary would be an inspiring and impactful event.

He noted that the membership of the Organizing Committee reflects the diversity of stakeholders in nation building, as it includes the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs Alhaji Inuwa Idris Yakasai as Chairman, with representatives from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Directorate of State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Youth Service Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Protocol Directorate, Kano State Fire Service, KAROTA, the Vehicle Inspection Directorate, and the Kano Hisba Board.

Also included are representatives from Corporate Security Guards, Kano Vigilante Group, Nigerian Legion, Nigerian Cadets, uniform voluntary organizations, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Askarawan Kwankwasiya, and the Anti-Phone Snatching Guards, with the Director of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Alhaji Usman Bello serving as Secretary of the Committee.

The Commissioner stressed that the inclusion of such a wide range of agencies and groups demonstrates the government’s commitment to inclusiveness, security, and civic engagement in planning this historic celebration.

Declaring the committee inaugurated, the Commissioner urged members to work tirelessly, collaborate with all stakeholders, and uphold the ideals of national pride. “Together, we shall make this year’s celebration a resounding success,” he affirmed.

In his acceptance remarks, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs and Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Inuwa Idris Yakasai expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for entrusting them with the task of steering this historic assignment.

He described the Independence Anniversary as more than a commemoration, but an opportunity to rededicate to the ideals of unity, peace, and progress for which Nigeria’s founding fathers sacrificed.

He assured the Government and people of Kano State that the committee would carry out its responsibilities with dedication, transparency, and a unity of purpose, pledging that this year’s anniversary would stand out in both planning and execution.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Director Internal Affairs, Alhaji Usman Bello, who also serves as Secretary to the Committee, warmly received members and commended them for accepting the responsibility to serve.

He expressed confidence that with their wealth of experience and collective commitment, the committee would deliver an exceptional and historic 65th Independence Anniversary celebration in Kano State.
