The Kano State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, MON, mni, FNGE, convened a strategic meeting with all heads of media institutions operating within Kano State, aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the government and the media sector.
The meeting, held Thursday, at conference hall of the ministry of Information, provided an opportunity for both parties to explore collaborative initiatives aimed at improving ethical journalism and enhancing the capacity of media professionals.
In a press statement issued by the deputy director internal affairs ministry of information, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, Dantiye underscored the critical role of media in promoting transparency, accountability, and public enlightenment, emphasizing the need for the government and media organizations to work hand-in-hand to enhance the skills of media practitioners through regular training and capacity-building programs, adding that this partnership will ensure that journalism remains professional, responsible, and guided by ethical principles.
The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of creating meaningful and impactful programs to raise awareness among Kano’s youth on the dangers of drug abuse and other societal vices, urging the media to take a proactive role in engaging the youth through informative and educative content that promotes positive social values and addresses the root causes of these issues.
In appreciation of the longstanding cooperation between the state government and private media stations, Commissioner Dantiye extended the government’s gratitude for their unwavering support in driving public awareness campaigns and disseminating critical information.
Baba Halilu assured that Kano State Government remains committed to working closely with media institutions to ensure that accurate and timely information is disseminated to the public, while also promoting a media environment that adheres to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.
Throughout the meeting, several deliberations were reached, including the commitment to continuous dialogue between the government and the media to foster mutual understanding and advance common goals.
