The Kano State Government has approved a 25% and 35% salary increment for academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions across the state, effective from March 2025.
This decision was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, after a State Executive Council meeting in Kano.
According to Waiya, the salary adjustment recognizes the critical role played by the staff in the development of the state’s educational sector.
The government aims to improve the conditions of workers in the educational sector and uplift the state’s education system.
In addition to the salary increment, the council approved various projects worth N3.3 billion.
These projects include:
Road Maintenance: N148.9 million for the maintenance of the School of Technology road network by the Kano Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA).
Road Expansion: An advance payment of N367.9 million for the contract to expand Zaria Road.
Electrical Infrastructure: N612.4 million for the conversion of external electrical infrastructure to an underground system at Government House Kano.
Ambulances: N184 million for the procurement of two ambulances for the Government House Clinic and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital.
Energy Bills: N348 million for the settlement of energy consumption bills to KEDCO.
Student Feeding: N662 million for the feeding of students in boarding schools during the ongoing second term.
Pensioners’ Conference: N100 million for the Nigeria Union of Pensioners to conduct its Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Kano
