Kano state ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with lafiya programme commemorates world rabies day.
In his welcome address, one health officer ministry of Agriculture, Dr idris kyauta said that the world rabies day is being remembered each year to enlighten the general public on the dreadful dangers associated with rabies.
He said that apart from plateau state Kano has the second highest cases of rabies in the country.
Kyauta applauded the turn out of the participants who were majorly hunters.
He said call on them to make judicious use of the opportunity in acquiring the knowledge throughout the presentation.
On his part the senior veterinary officer gwale local government area, Dr Abdullahi Abubakar Gaya said that in every nine minutes a person dies from rabies globally.
Dr Gaya high lighted on the stages of a dog infected with rabies can easily be transferred to human as a result of dog bite.
He however added that the anti rabies vaccines are free for dogs and animal owners to access the vaccines each year.
The senior veterinarian, said that domestic dogs are mostly responsible for over hundred percent of rabies.
The theme for this year’s world rabies day is “BREAKING RABIES BOUNDARIES”
On his part, the state disease surveillance and notification officer ministry of health, suleiman iliyasu said they have received a lot of messages and reports of cases of dog bite in the state this year.
While in some local government it has been under reported, so there is need for people in the community to know about dangers associated with dog bites in taking prompt action to save the life of the victim that has been beaten.
Among the participants who were mostly hunters present in the event express their gratitude for sensitizing them and promise to inform their counterparts in the community what they have learn in other to put it into practice
