OnThe United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his decisive action to combat child malnutrition by funding Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for severely malnourished children across the state.

The praise was delivered by Mr. Rahama Rihood Mohammed Farah, Chief of UNICEF Kano Field Office, during a courtesy visit by the Director General of the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), Hajiya Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), and her team of directors.

Mr. Farah described Governor Abba’s initiative as a bold and compassionate investment that will save countless young lives”, underscoring the critical role of state leadership in improving child health and nutrition outcomes.

In her remarks, the KASPA Director General expressed the Governor’s appreciation to UNICEF for its longstanding support in Kano.

She highlighted UNICEF’s instrumental role in assisting the state to enact the Social Protection Law, develop the Social Protection Policy and strengthen programmes in education, nutrition, and child protection.

Hajiya Fateema also requested enhanced collaboration with UNICEF in key areas, including institutional engagement, reintegration of out-of-school children, inclusion in coordination platforms and support across all UNICEF thematic areas.

The meeting reinforced a shared commitment between Kano State and UNICEF to protect vulnerable children, improve nutrition and learning outcomes, and strengthen the state’s social protection systems for lasting impact.
