The Kano State Government has joined other states of the federation at the 2025 National Council on Health Meeting held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The annual Council on Health serves as the highest policymaking body in Nigeria’s health sector, bringing together Federal and State stakeholders, development partners, and technical experts to review progress, address emerging challenges, and adopt resolutions that guide the nation’s health agenda.
Representing Kano State at the meeting, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reaffirmed the State Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and sustaining reforms aimed at improving the well-being of the people.
Kano actively contributed to the Council’s deliberations by engaging in discussions on key national health policies, particularly those that align with the unique dynamics and priorities of the state. Dr. Yusuf noted that such engagements ensure that national policies remain inclusive, practical, and responsive to the needs of all Nigerians.
He further emphasized that Kano remains fully aligned with national strategies to enhance primary healthcare, improve disease surveillance, advance health financing mechanisms, and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). According to him, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration continues to place strong emphasis on health sector investment, infrastructure development, and partnership-driven interventions.
The Commissioner added that the meeting also provided a valuable platform for states to share best practices, deepen collaboration, and harmonize their health priorities with the Federal Government’s broader goal of building a resilient and efficient health system.
Dr. Yusuf concluded that Kano remains committed to implementing the resolutions adopted at the Council and will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to deliver a healthier and more prosperous future for its citizens.
