The Director General of the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA), Dr. Usman Bashir, has presented the state’s progress and strategies for sustaining HIV services to the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, heads of relevant government agencies, and key partners.

As the presentation highlighted how Kano State has managed to maintain and strengthen its HIV response despite global donor funding cuts, particularly following the policy shifts under the Trump administration in the United States.
While many states experienced significant service disruptions, Kano State has remained resilient. Dr. Bashir attributed this to proactive planning, strong political will, and the unwavering support of the state government under the leadership of His Excellency Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has consistently backed the HIV response with a dedicated budget of ₦2 billion, with nearly half already released.
“The government’s commitment has ensured that test kits, drugs, consumables, and improved data systems remain available. The agency is now stronger, functional, and working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to prevent service interruptions,” Dr. Bashir said.
The Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reaffirmed the government’s determination to strengthen HIV services, noting that KSACA is fully functional and operating in close collaboration with sister agencies including the Hospital Management Board, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, KHETFUND, KSCHMA, KNCDC, and PHIMA.
The presentation served not only to review existing progress but also to identify challenges and chart collective recommendations for strengthening HIV sustainability in the years ahead.
