In a move to ensure every child is reached, the Commissioner has authorized the immediate rollout of the Africa Vaccination Week data management tool across all local government areas.
Backed by WHO and UNICEF, the initiative shifts the state toward a real-time performance model, emphasizing that truthful, timely data is the only way to drive measurable health improvements.
Flagging off the official launch of the 2026 Africa Vaccination Week (AVW) today at the State Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, said the global theme, for this year is For every generation, vaccines work,” as the state is launching an aggressive campaign to reach zero-dose children between 0 and 23 months who have never received a vaccine.
Dr. Yusuf emphasized that this year’s campaign, the state is deploying an integrated health services package across all facilities.

This means families visiting health facilities for vaccinations will also gain access to Nutritional screening and deworming, Antenatal care, Family Planning, Malaria treatment and HIV counselling, Breastfeeding support and diarrhoea management.
In ensuring the campaign succeed, the Ministry has enlisted the moral authority of traditional and religious leaders, alongside polio survivors who will serve as living testimonies during a state-wide Health Walk and Rally.

The Commissioner call on Local Government Chairmen to guarantee the security of vaccination teams and he then praised the media for amplifying the life-saving messages to the general public.
Dr Labaran credited the political will of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the support of partners like GAVI, WHO, and UNICEF for making the mobilization possible.
