Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, the APC governorship candidate for Gombe State, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to launch an immediate investigation into an alleged coordinated campaign of cyberbullying, criminal defamation, and disinformation.

Highly placed sources reveal that Gwamna requested the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) and INTERPOL to step in, citing intelligence that key perpetrators may be operating from abroad.

The petition targets several social media accounts that falsely claimed Gwamna was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)—allegations he has categorically denied.

The Police have been urged to request subscriber records, IP logs, and digital evidence directly from Meta Platforms to trace, identify, and prosecute the financiers behind the campaign, as well as remove the offending content.

Sources familiar with the filing described the online attacks as a calculated effort to manipulate public perception and erode Gwamna’s expanding grassroots momentum across Gombe State.

Political analysts note that the development highlights the escalating use of digital smear tactics as the governorship contest heats up. Supporters maintain that opponents are resorting to character assassination rather than engaging in policy-based debates, expressing confidence that law enforcement will expose those responsible.
