Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf has expressed satisfaction on how polio immunization exercise was conducted in Ajingi, Gaya and Wudil local government areas.

In a press statement issued by the ministry of health information officer Ibrahim Abdullahi.

The commissioner express his satisfaction shortly after supervising the exercise in some areas of the local governments.

He asserted that he was particularly gladdened about the level of acceptability the exercise enjoys from people of the areas which was the principal success of the campaign exercise, while acknowledging efforts of the health personnel in the local governments areas in ensuring eligible children are immunized.

The commissioner appreciated the councils’ leadership for a superb commitment in making sure that planning and coordination are followed as designed at the state level including attending evening review meetings.

He said, “It delightful to find out that the Gaya local government chairman has been going round to ensure all eligible children in his area were not excluded.

Additionally, he has been donating drugs and consumables to health facilities in his local government area for improved health service delivery.

“Moreover, the vice chairman of Wudil local government was also seen visiting nooks and crannies of the area to ensure success of the exercise.”

Dr. Labaran, who was represented by the Director Public Health and Disease Control of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Gano, hailed the district heads of the local governments for giving fatherly support and cooperation as well attending evening review meetings themselves without any one representation.

He called on parents to continue to bring out their eligible children to receive the immunization at canters or allow house to house vaccinators to vaccinate their children in order to get rid of the circulating variant polio virus resurfacing in some parts of the state, hence there is a need to put heads together to eliminate the menace.

The commissioner then charged health educators and social mobilization officers in the areas to intensify sensitizing the general public on the dangers associated with polio virus, as this is a strategy to safe guard their children against the dreaded disease.

Dr. Labaran commended the giant strides of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritizing health as one of the cardinal principles of his administration which has already started yielding fruitful results.
