Director General, Special Services Directorate, Kano Government House Governor, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd) has disclosed that Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is expected launch the Emblem Appeal Fund on Monday.

AVM Umar made the disclosure while briefing pressmen on the lined up activities for the 2025 Armed Forces Celebration And Remembrance Day (AFRD) in his office On Friday.

According to him, Governor Yusuf has also planned to lead Wreaths Laying Ceremony and followed by Security Chiefs among other major stakeholders on Wednesday at Dotsa Village, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

“After the Wreaths Laying Ceremony, there will be a reception and cocktail party in honour of the Nigeria legion at the state Secretariat,” he added.

The director general explained that “the Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD), simply known as Remembrance Day, is observed on January 15 every year to commemorate the servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces and to honour veterans of the World War I and II as well as the Nigerian Civil War.

“In 2024, the name was changed to “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.”

This is to celebrate members of the Armed Forces still serving and remember the fallen heroes.

” Though other Common Wealth countries celebrate Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 12, Nigeria’s date was changed to January 15 in commemoration of the conclusion of the Nigerian Civil War,” AVM Umar explained.

He stressed that the day provide relief to soldiers who sustained various degrees of injuries in the fight against Boko Haram in the Northeast as well as tackling other internal security problems in the Northwest and other parts of the country. 

The director general lamented that despite this challenges, the soldiers continued to dedicate themselves to this onerous and patriotic duty, maintaining that Governor Yusuf always appreciate the sacrifice of the army in protecting the citizens at any given time.

AVM Umar appreciated the good partnership between his office and media outfits in the state, assure to continue to sustain the tempo for the  benefit of the citizens in the state.
