Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has extended its heartfelt commendation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his recent gesture aimed at enhancing the welfare of journalists in the state during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a press statement issued by the NUJ Kano council secretary Abubakar shehu Kwaru.

The state council chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, expressed gratitude while receiving a donation of four hundred and fifty bags of rice from the state government on behalf of NUJ members and other media-related unions. 

This donation is a significant contribution to supporting journalists and promoting a conducive environment for the observance of the Ramadan fast.

Describing the gesture as timely and impactful, Comrade Dederi stated, “This benevolence will go a long way in providing a supportive atmosphere for our colleagues during this sacred period.”

He further appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to investing in the welfare of media practitioners and fostering a media-friendly environment.

In his remarks during the presentation of the donation, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the current administration’s cardinal objectives to inclusively engage all stakeholders and acknowledge the vital role of media professionals in accurately reporting government activities and promoting democratic governance.

The Director General of Media and Communication to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, also noted that the beneficiaries of this gesture extend beyond the NUJ, encompassing various media organizations including the Correspondents Chapel, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE),, Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), and online media platforms, veterans journalists among others.
