A crucial roundtable interactive meeting aimed at enhancing a conducive investment atmosphere, driven by data and insightful analysis, was held on Tuesday in Kaduna, further positioning Kano as a destination for global investors in solid minerals.

The meeting featured representatives from Geo Scan Technologies Nigeria, including global headquarters partners from Berlin, Germany.

The team comprised Founder Dr. Ulrich Eichhorn, Co-founder, Directors, and Senior Geologists.

Leading the Kano State delegation was the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Engineer Mansur Yakubu and several Directors from the Ministry.

Commissioner Hamza Safiyanu reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the partnership, expressing confidence that effective collaboration will attract significant global investment and create job opportunities key priorities of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Mr. Oliver Haeggberg, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Geoscan Technologies, emphasized that the purpose of their visit to Nigeria, including meeting Kano Solid Mineral sector, was to provide technological services capable of scanning and analyzing licenses, as well as delivering feedback about targeted solid minerals, including their quantity and economic value.

He added that the outcomes of this analysis are intended to generate comprehensive reports that will appeal to potential investors.

Alhaji Nasiru Wada, a Director at Geoscan Technologies Nigeria and a traditional titleholder known as Magaji Garin Kano, elaborated on the purpose of the meeting.

He underscored the importance of collaboration in various aspects of solid mineral sector development in Kano.

“This endeavor and initial contact is to enlighten and present our vision for what the Solid Mineral Ministry in Kano can achieve as a regulatory body and enabler of investment opportunities, while also overseeing activities of the Kano Mining Development Company Limited,” he stated.

Alhaji Wada proposed the formation of a technical committee to expedite the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for consideration by both parties.

Renowned Geologist and Consultant Professor Ibrahim Garba advised the State Ministry to prioritize the updating of technical knowledge to attract investors, enhance regulatory understanding for managers, and adopt global best practices within the mining sector.

He also urged a focus on a regulatory role that allows the private sector to operate effectively.

It could be recalled that in December of last year, the Ministry hosted the Managing Director of Geoscan Technologies Nigeria, Mr. Demiete Amachree, who led a presentation titled “Roadmap for the Geoscan and Kano State Partnership towards unlocking opportunities in the solid mineral sector.”
