Cso’s, Media and community development organisations call on the Kano state government to reinvigorate advocacy in strengthening transport system in the state.
The call was made during an interactive session held at the AHBN office,on subnational stakeholder engagement on Compressed natural gas, electric vehicles on soot free buses policies, implementation and adaptation to address climate change and improve on environmental safety.
The Kano State Commissioner for Transport, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, who was represented by his Technical Adviser, Alhaji Nura, said the ministry had already taken concrete steps towards transforming the state’s transport system.
He pledged the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and sustainable outcomes.
He also urged media organisations and relevant stakeholders to actively participate in public sensitisation efforts.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, said the foundation would take responsibility for coordinating stakeholder engagement and public sensitisation campaigns to ensure a successful transition of the transport system from petrol to cleaner energy alternatives.
Dr. Garba explained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national policy on the conversion of vehicles from petrol to CNG, noting that the move would help mitigate the effects of climate change while promoting a cleaner and safer environment.
Representatives of various organisations present include YOSPIS, CHR, V-PeSDI, White Heart Development Initiative, WPP, Arewa Peace Ambassadors Forum, and the Network for Environmental Safety and Society Development.
