Stakeholders in Kano State have been urged to deepen their understanding of budget tracking processes to ensure effective resource allocation and improve health outcomes across the state.
The call was made during the Kano State Health and Immunization Mid-Year 2026 Budget Analysis and Validation Meeting.
The event was organized by the Better Opportunities for Optimal Services and Targeted Immunization for Zero-Dose and Under-Immunized Children (BOOST) project implemented by Save the Children International with funding from GSK in collaboration with the Kano State Community of Practice on Immunization, Budget Tracking, Advocacy, and Accountability (KN-CoP).

Opening the session, KN-CoP Co-Chair Mallam Salisu Yusuf emphasized that the meeting aimed to familiarize stakeholders with the health scorecard to help them pinpoint critical operational gaps and formulate actionable recommendations.
He urged participants to remain proactive and consistently practice populating the scorecard templates to maintain high data accuracy.
Umar Ibrahim Umar, Policy and Advocacy Officer at Save the Children International, outlined the meeting’s primary objectives:
Evaluate Performance: Review the 2026 Health and Immunization Budget, specifically analyzing allocations versus actual fund releases.
Identify Gaps: Pinpoint underperforming areas that require urgent policy and financial intervention.
Strengthen Advocacy: Develop targeted advocacy tools and demands to engage state authorities on sustainable health financing.
Update Metrics: Generate validated data to update the state’s Health and Immunization Scorecard for mid-2026.
The meeting featured key technical presentations by Dr. Musa Muhammad Bello who delivered a detailed presentation on the validated health and immunization tracking data, measured against agreed indicators.
While Mallam Abdurrahman, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer at the Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget, presented a comprehensive overview of the state’s January-to-June 2026 health budget performance.

In conclusion of the workshop, participants broke into working groups to process, compute, and integrate the mid-year 2026 data directly into the official scorecard templates, setting the groundwork for upcoming government advocacy engagements.
